Getting started on meshing - part II

15. Modelling with shape tools

Think of modeling with the shape tools as with clay: you start out with a basic shape like a ball of clay and by manipulating it you can end up with almost any shape you like. Now the trick with 3d modelling is to pick the basic shape that is easiest to sculpt into what you want and has enough vertices and faces to allow for the complex shapes you want, but not too many.
There's no right and wrong in this, just use your own imagination and judgment.
The shape tools are show here:

The sphere, geosphere and cylinder you can change the settings, the box is always the same.
In combination with the 'extrude' tool (extrudes selected faces) these 4 tools will cover most meshing needs.

You can also build your own shapes from scratch with the vertex and face tools, but that will not be covered in this tutorial.
