Getting started on meshing - part I

4. Moving the hemline

For this tutorial I'll be doing a short dress with flared sleeves. I'll use the b200 body as a base as that is pretty close to what I have in mind.

I want to make the skirt a bit longer. So I select the vertices that makes up the hemline of the skirt. I click the 'Model' tab of the tool box and choose 'select'. The select options should be set to Vertex and the Ignore Backfaces box should not be checked.
Then I zoom in on the hemline and the upper thighs. By dragging the mouse I select the vertices. (If you missed some hold down shift while dragging, that will allow you to add more vertices to the selection. If you got too many vertices in the selection hold down shift and right-drag to deselect.) It is best to work from the front or side view in this case.

Now I click the move button in the tool box. In the move options I see three slots with numbers and a move button. Those are for moving the selected vertices by typing in numbers. The x y and z buttons are for choosing along which axes to move the vertices. This is useful for moving by typing as well as by hand. If you try to drag the mouse around a bit you can see that you can also move with the mouse. However, it can be hard to do precision moving. If you use the x y and z buttons to decide how to move that will help you a lot. In this case I deselect the x axis - that way the vertices won't be moved to the left or right when I pull down the hemline.
I move down the vertices (don't forget about the ctrl+z option if you did it wrong). I notice that I moved past a vertex from the thigh, so that vertex is now higher than the hem line

That creates some weird shading on the thighs

I select that vertex (well, it's actually 2, you can see that in side view) and pull them down just below the hemline.

That was better.
